PIMS student template: Special Ed Status N if IEP out of compliance
The checkbox that allows expired IEP students to load to the special ed snapshot does not help the Student Template. If this functionality existed for the student template for students that do not have an active iep and cross-checked with an exit, it would eliminate a large amount of time deleting tons of students, especially when districts conduct ieps in the same month district-wide.

It would be extremely helpful to have this fixed. It is VERY time consuming to have correct over and over and over. This also happens EVERY time there is a new IEP being drafted even when the older one is NOT expired, which should absolutely be fixed, even if you don't fix the issue if the IEP is actually expired.

PLEASE fix this! Every PIMS submission requires MANY manual overrides and hours of extra time!

Agree with Kristy. We've been using SMS 2.0 since the 12-13 school year and it was only within the past couple of years that this behavior changed.

Why did this change from the previous years? When you are running your bi-weekly student updates, you get errors. These then need to go to the special ed. department so they can correct them in Skyward.
Can we go back to the prior set up? -

When a student's IEP expires in Skyward, the student's special education (SE) status is changed from a 'Y' in field 38 to an 'N'. This creates a multitude of errors and the student is unable to be uploaded. According to PDE, if an IEP expires, that does not mean the student is no longer a SE student. A SE student is always a 'Y' unless exited from the program with an 'E' and an exit date. Other than on 12/1... For the December SE upload, every student must have a valid IEP date. However, during the rest of the school year this does not really apply.
For student template exports, when a student is changed to an 'N' based on their IEP date, our only option in Skyward is to manually update all of the SE fields or delete the student from the upload. This is not best practice and it is not how other student information systems handle SE student records. In addition, I always have to use the current date (or back date) my Student Template export to avoid all of the SE errors. PDE recommends using 6/30 when exporting your student template, which is almost impossible in Skyward.
