Mail Merge Data Mining into an Email
It would be excellent if we were able to mail merge our data mining into an email home to parents. Right now it will only allow you to mail merge it into a template that must be printed. It would save the districts a lot of postage and man hours spent stuffing envelopes.

I support this idea 100%, if we can expand the current MAIL MERGE feature within Data Mining and instead of printing the final mail merged letter, we would like to email the document as an attachment and have the option to email it to the all guardians, primary guardian, primary family, etc.
Similiar to sending the statement out of the Fee Management module. -

Depending on the information that is being sent, you may consider having a generic letter that can be emailed via Message Center and have the particular information needing to be disbursed posted in Family Access. For example, ISTEP Parent Claim Codes, Required Vaccines, etc., need to be sent for each student. You could import the information such as ISTEP Claim Codes, or needed Vaccines into a custom form. Extract the custom form data in Data Mining but choosing the Family Access option before you run the report. This adds the information for the parent/student under the Portfolio Tab in Family Access. So basically, your letter is generic but stating as well where the parents can 'retrieve' the information in Family Access. No need to stuff or mail!

Slightly convoluted way of doing it, but you can send emails out as a mail merge in word (with Outlook). Since data mining has the means of creating a spreadsheet, you have your data source. You'd also have to check to make sure that you were SPAM white listed on your server so that it wouldn't shut down your processes if it saw many emails coming from a specific location.
