Increase Field length for Student Names
With student names becoming increasingly longer and tied to so much testing, it would be nice to have the field length increased especially for middle and last names. Our district uses on-line enrollment and enters the full legal name (including middle) so that matching is easier to identify students without duplication, especially for or high mobility students. The length issue has primarily been with middle and last names (especially those that have 2 last names)
We understand that the name field character limits could be longer, we are excited to announce that they have been extended on the Qmlativ product. We recommend that you use the Legal Name fields for those students whose names do not fit in the standard name fields. These legal names can be sent via state reporting.

Each year I receive calls about a student name not being able to fit into Skyward. A student name should be accurate and the same as what appears on the birth certificate. A parent is able to see a student name and it should be accurate. We should not have to say the name does not fit into Skyward. The first, middle and last name fields need to be increased. I have opened several tickets with Skyward and nothing is able to be done about this.

Another submission with the same request with many votes. Please consider this request soon. It would also be important to add a prefered full name option for gender identity preferences so that schools have an option to "show" the preferred name in educator access plus, family and student access. This would allow options for legal name printing on transcripts and other official documents AND sensitivity for gender identity.

Student name fields do not allow enough characters to allow for full legal name to be inputted. First, middle and last name fields need to increase number of characters allowed to input. I run a data mine report to pull all senior legal names to submit to our vendor for diploma orders. I have a student with 2 middle names that has 20 characters and it will not fit.

There is plenty of space on the TX/NCLB Other PEIMS tab. Based on the response from Michelle below, Wisconsin has this capability. Texas needs it too.

Skyward added a Name Override to the NCLB tab on the student's profile to be used for this reason.

In Texas, state reporting allows up to 60 characters per name field and other student information systems are programmed with those limits. So when a student moves from a district with another SIS and enrolls in mine it causes data discrepancies when we report our data and the names do not match.
I'm attaching the section of the data standards in Texas that lists the field length.

We are finding that middle names are not only one name but two and three names long. There is not enough room for this. Is it possible to get additional space or room to accommodate this? Right now we have the first name of the 3 name middle name in the first name slot with a hyphen between the first name and first name of the 3 name middle name.
