1. Granular configuration for preferred names and gender identity in Student Management

   While it's wonderful that Skyward 2.0 is developing methods to support Transgender and Gender Nonconforming students, this needs to be pushed further and make those options more granular. In instances where a transitioning student or gender nonconforming student does not feel yet comfortable notifying their family of their preferences, we should be able to comply with that request by restricting the display options in Family Access.

   Great News! We have completed adding the functionality that allows district to control gender identity from displaying within Family Access. This update will be available with the Addendum 8 of the June Release, which will be going out on 9/12/2024. Thank you for all your votes and comments. 2. Identity Tab Legal Name Field Needs to be Searchable

   The addition of the new Identity tab with Legal Name field is very helpful in allowing districts to follow OCR requirements. However, the legal name is not searchable in the system. This field needs to be searchable for many clerical reasons. Please make this field searchable as soon as possible.

3. Method of Instruction in Data Mining needs "As Of Date"

   When running a data mining report, and selecting "Method of Instruction" we need an "As of Date". All other programs, under Special Programs, have this option in Data Mining.

   Great news, with PR 4583409, a “Method of Instruction As Of” field has been added to Data Mining. With this field selected, you’ll be able to designate a certain date to look at (As Of). This update went out with 05.20.10.00.06 – Oct 2020 Release Addendum6 on 12/10/2020. Thank you for the continued feedback!

4. Transgender Students

   As more students are coming forward as transgender, we have an increase in requests to have the student's preferred name on their profile for teachers and staff to use/see. These are not legal name changes, but we would like the ability to accommodate the student's request once they go through our approval process and still keep the legal name sending for state reporting.

   Currently, there is a Name Override field on the NCLB tab where you can put the legal name. It was originally set up for students who have names that are longer than the name fields on the profile so it would send properly for the state ID number. I have tried use this as a work around for our transgender students by putting their legal name in this field and the preferred name on the Profile. It works for sending the name for the WISEid, but Skyward does not look in this area for sending the name info to WISEdata (this looks at the profile name). As a result, we have errors that the name doesn't match the name on the ID number.

   We really need to have a better way to function for these situations. There is the "Other Name" field, but I don't find that this field is very useful because it doesn't show on the profile when you look for a student on the student management side and teachers have to specifically check to have other name display - and even then, the other name doesn't display in all areas of EA+.

   In addition to allowing the preferred name to be on the profile but still send the legal name for state reporting, we would like to have options on what name prints on certain documents (report cards, transcripts, letters, online forms, etc). Some things we will want to have the legal name print, but on others we would want the preferred name to print.

   We are not a large district and we have at least 4 students currently that are in this situation. I'm sure there are larger districts with more students and I would expect we will see this more often.

5. Student Cell Phone

   It would be helpful to have a labeled spot for the student's cell phone number. There are several spots for parents' contact info, but nothing for the student's cell phone.

6. track and view locker history

   We've had a few incidents in which a student left (most recently by law enforcement) and the locker information was deleted. We needed to look up what locker the student had for investigative purposes but this information was not tracked. Sometimes the locker gets deleted when they withdraw and administrators need to look up the locker number to find something for the parent or find Chromebooks that were never turned in. I don't believe it would take much programming to keep a historical record of locker assignments. Most of Skyward seems to be setup that way but not the lockers. It has become an irritation for our administrators and police. When a locker is deleted create a historical record of that locker assignment for the student that personal may lookup at any time.

8. Expanded Space in Student Indicators

   While 12 student indicator spaces is fantastic there are twice that amount of available criteria that could be displayed proving very useful to administrative staff teachers clerical parents and other users of the system. We limit how we use this area right now because some of the uses for us that we'd like to do cannot be implemented because to do so would not leave enough room to achieve the overall objective of this area. We would have to leave a few things out and that makes the certain uses ineffective so we have to scrap the whole idea of that use. We find this area extremely helpful to users in many different positions throughout the district and would love to see it expanded to incorporate a more robust use of the area.
   We'd like to be able to use some of the Indicator Categories more extensively. More spaces available would be helpful to achieve this.

   Great news! With PR 4467911 unlimited Student Indicators can now be added in each entity. As a result, when adding/editing Student Indicators, the ability to set a position for the indicator has been removed (grid option). On screens where the indicators display in two rows (such as Student Profile), only the first 12 indicators will display for a student. Clicking on the indicators will display all indicators. If the indicators are displayed on a single line, all indicators will be displayed, even if there are more than 12. This update has gone out with June Addendum 6.
